After a couple of years of Yin time… deep inside me I found the essential benefits of reflecting.

I recall what one of my old Masters said to me many decades ago: “It is when you are in the deepest Yin, when you think that nothing is happening… That’s when BIG things prepare!” That is SO true!

Indeed, we are living in the area of technology, when everything we want comes at a click (very Yang). Then Covid19 hits (or what the governments decided to do with us). I was isolating like many of us in Australia. People were loosing their jobs, hardly any opportunity was available for months. I thought of all the stress that people endured when isolating and loosing income, being stuck at home, seeing no-one, so what to do? I started offering weekly Zoom sessions on Feng Shui and many people joined, friendship formed, hope and motivation emerged 🙂

I then thought, “What if the worst happens? How can I/we prepare?” I looked at my backyard and for weeks, started to dig and revamp. A vegetable garden was the way! Winter did not stop us, we fed the soil, made a compost, planted seeds – everything grew… I never ate so much dark green kale in my life 😀
The results were worth every minute of our time – eating our own season (organic) vegetables -> our bodies became stronger, talking to the Land -> our minds and spirits connected and we had so much fun!

Seeing GROWTH was inspiring and healing.
Today, more than a year later, again, our season vegetables are growing, many parts of Australia are in lock-down due to a Covid19 rapid increase of cases. Time for me to separate those little ones again and look forward to eating some yummy warm soups.

New Zoom sessions on Feng Shui and Emotional Sanity are coming up soon again in English. Register your interest by emailing me at fengshuisteps {at} hotmail.com and I will send you info and invite link.

May calmness and reflection bring you Peace.
      Take care,

“Modern world” Genocide could be near you

My travels recently brought me to the Pilbara in Western Australia. Amazing landscapes when visiting the National Parks. Super hot temperatures though – yes… I was there in January which is Summer and the thermometer showed 47 degrees Celsius. Karijini NP

      Karijini NP – Western Australia

Closer to the Coast, I fell in love at first sight with what initially appeared to me as a lovely locality: Ieramugadu, better known on the ‘official’ map and by the new Australians under Roebourne Western Australia.
Terribly sad past history unfortunately, this little township now counts other attractions than the old gaol and counts a Cultural Art Centre in the old pub, a lovely park next to it, sports facilities and nice murals!
      DSC_3936
I could see myself living there.

Then I drove up to the top of the hill and had a better look and immediately had second thoughts!
The main electrical power plant is located near the Aged Care, Community Services and local Hospital. The close surroundings of the water tower is decorated with Mobile Phone Antennas zapping the water constantly – whether you drink the water or you wash yourself with it, imagine what it does to you!
      DSC_3923 doc

      DSC_3924 doc

Last but not least, the local cemetery is surrounded by so many houses that would be very spooky and very unhealthy – physically, emotionally and spiritually – living there.

As very well illustrated in the documentary “Exile and the Kingdom”  we see the huge issues of Colonisation, Slavery, Mining booms… I would like to encourage you to watch, through the above link (Part 1)  the story of the Aboriginal people of Ieramugadu (Roebourne), their Law, their tribal voice – their survival.

I mentioned those three major issues to one of the local Health Centers who probably thought that I was an alien!
I wish a day would come where mayors, town planners and landscapers would start their projects with common sense first and for the Well-Being of all.

Ignorance leads to another modern slow Genocide again in Roebourne!
      Wake up please.

As usual, I was tempted to put it off (again and again) because it was never ‘the right time’. I was quite stressed just finishing my work contract and plenty of other things at hand!
Now,  I am so proud and happy that I completed the 5 day Training to become a Feng Shui Practitioner, with Roseline Deleu.

I met Roseline in February 2008 and since May of that special year I wished to follow her course. So it was long overdue. Finally we decided to go ahead.

clo-wardrobeRoseline came and we “Feng Shui-ed” my place as this is part of the teaching (big enjoyable bonus!!!). Yes – We moved furniture around. Yes – We de-cluttered draws, wardrobe and book shelves. This is the active part of the Feng Shui. However, we went much deeper into the reality of this art of placement!

Roseline often spoke and taught about the Nature elements, about the power of them working together in harmony… or not working in harmony   😦
She had me thinking and observing Nature and its amazing work.

Roseline asked off me repeatedly to reflect on: “what does one element to the other”.
      – What happens if there is too much of one element when supposed to work along with another? (e.g. wood with water)
      – What happens if there is too little of an element or a missing element? (e.g. wood with water)
Yes – Feng Shui is much more than just de-cluttering and moving furniture. In fact; de-cluttering and moving furniture is THE RESULT of Feng Shui understanding and practice.

When finally understanding what clutter and placement does to the energy around you, what clutter and placement does to your own energy; you want/need to de-clutter.

Much is said and written about what ingesting good or bad food does to your body and mind, much also is said about getting rid of people with low energy to keep up yours.
Little these days is said on what the environment YOU CREATE around you is doing to your mind, soul and body.
Yet this is something you alone can change for yourself; and this is Feng Shui, this positive movement and environment that you create is Feng Shui.

I will go to more into details in a few other articles to come; right now I only want to share with you a few of the first results of this amazing 5 day course:
-My place looks great and it feels really good to be here and so do I
-My wardrobe is looking colourful and quite attractive (see picture)
-I was stressed, yet, after the day 3, I could wake up in the morning around 3 or 4 am and fall asleep again easily (I stress very much at the end of a work contract hoping all of my students are able to finalise their course and get a job, I usually then wake up early and can’t find my sleep again)
-I shed 3 kg (still a lot to let go off )
-I am serene and happy again
-None-the-less, we had so much laughter and beautiful experiences

If this article comes up on Roseline’s Blog it means that I have understood what Roseline is teaching and I am sooooooo grateful to have met her and finally taken and completed her five day course.
I will even say: I wish I had done it sooner! So, if you are thinking of doing it, my advice to you is: Go, Do, Have fun and create for yourself a much easier life.

      Bilum Stories

      Bilums Kamusi w

Ladies of the Western Province wanting to share their stories to the World

When I stretched my legs 5 minutes at a small airstrip in one of the numerous remote areas in the Western Province in Papua New Guinea, I never thought this short plane stop would change lives!

We had stopped there in the morning during the many stops of the Gulf run and we had to go back in the afternoon to refuel. The villagers knew that well, being used to see the good looking blond blue eyed pilot on a regular basis – they liked him, he had a kind soul and always has a thoughtful word when locals greeted him.

While the morning stop was rather unattended, when we approached in the afternoon, most of the villagers were waiting at the other side of the small barrier. They knew someone different was on the plane, a ‘white’ woman. They were curious. As I came out of the plane, the pilot directed me to a safe area while the refueling was happening. A lady bravely approached me for a chat. Amy is one of the local teachers and explained briefly life in the village. Then, the plane was ready. I bid her farewell. All eyes were directed to me, I smiled and waved without knowing that something was about to change lives.

This brief encounter stayed in my mind and three weeks later, I asked the pilot to deliver a letter to Amy for me. I thought that this isolated village may need some items for school or for ladies. That’s how the “Bilum Stories” Project was born. Empower, educate women living remotely and share their life stories to the world.

They needed items for school and some clothes. I managed to collect those items among my friends in Australia and Europe and forwarded them to the village. Each bag delivered was in exchange of a natural fiber bilum. Why a swap are you going to ask me? Well, I believe that when you give something for free, often those objects have not much value to the recipient. On the other hand, an exchange with something that those ladies could craft with local fibers is showing them respect and interest!

What is a bilum? It’s a bag, a friendship bag. Each Papua New Guinean has a bilum. Each bilum has its own characteristics depending on the area where they are crafted, then each family has its own pattern. Since each person owns and wears a bilum, each person also has a its own story!

      weaving

Natural fibres + recycling plastic, what a great idea!

Ladies were keen to get this idea started and got together to craft. They wondered what was coming with the next delivery and were all happy to discover pencils, games, pens, clothes and accessories – each and every item was a real treat!

      Kamusie Barbara

      Sharing their delicious papaya

I visited them again in January when they had gathered all the bilums for me to take to Australia and show other women. I had a wonderful welcome and spent a few hours with them sharing food and their traditional sago. That was a very special treat for all of us! I am not easily overwhelmed but I must admit that day I felt very humble. Each wanted to show me their craft, wanted to talk to me, wanted to touch me. Kids surrounded me, some even were scared seeing my white skin. Then, the group walked me back to the airplane and confessed that I was the first woman coming to visit them just for the pleasure to pay them a visit – not as a missionary – not to take anything from the land!

Today, we are creating their local Health & Well-Being Newsletter covering community news, natural medicine recipes with fruits and vegetables that are grown locally and recyclable ideas so they keep a tidy village with the lowest possible dump.

Bilums and Roseline at the Belgian Embassy.jpg

“Bilum Stories” & Roseline Deleu @ the Belgian Embassy in Canberra

Early March, I presented “Bilum Stories” for the first time to a Social Scientists Event organised by the Belgian Embassy in Canberra and the idea and topic were very well received. Next week, the bilums are going with me to Sydney to where I will show them to another audience and raise awareness of lives and stories of the ladies who crafted them.

Each bilum is precious, each bilum was created with LOVE
to connect with ladies around the world.

The ladies of the Western Province are all looking forward to hearing about the travels of their bilums!

It is amazing how a few minutes can change lives isn’t it!

As Europe and the rest of the world is facing huge waves of refugees, Papua New Guineans could well feel like aliens in their own country.
Papua New Guinea (PNG) counts 600 islands, 7 million people and over 800 languages. Only 18 % live in urban centres while most of the population lives in customary communities.

      PNG digicel sign

Mobile Phone advertising – Welcome sign as you land in Port Moresby (PNG)

Pursuing my researches on Feng Shui and environmental health, I visited many different areas of PNG in 2015. It is an amazing country with a variety of landscapes. From volcanoes to swamps, mountains to islands – each has its own beauty. Tourism is very slow due to the high level of danger and Port Moresby is rated as one of the 10 most dangerous capital cities in the world.

In PNG, there is no dole (no sit-down money), little welfare and scarce employment. In cities, the minimum wage is the equivalent of +/- 1 Australian Dollar per hour, that is for the lucky ones who have a job. People live from the land in their villages and also in Port Moresby where you can see vegetables growing wherever people can grow them: on the side of the streets, in some hills or in their little gardens. Then, they sit on a little outdoor space and sell their harvest to the pedestrians.

      PNG selling their harvest

      Every little sale counts

PNG has encountered the modern world like other developing countries, jumping from the Metal Age (they all have machetes there) straight into the Age of Technology. What a shock! In some villages today, I have seen many tribal men proudly walking with their mobile phone in their hand!

      PNG walking in the village

      Village Life

      PNG walking in the compound.jpg

      Compound Life

Not everyone lives in a village, some of those who pursued their education and working career often may have been moved with their families to major cities. In Port Moresby, expats and some locals live in heavily guarded compounds. Other locals live in other banded areas in basic houses with no electricity and sometimes even without tap water and no bathrooms.

      PNG village playground and houses

      Village Life

      PNG compound behind fences.jpg

      Compound Life

As I walked in the compound where I was staying, indigenous children and teenagers came out and happily talked to me. Our conversations were about their lives, languages, wishes and needs. The compound was mainly housing and industrial buildings, no park for them to play, no place to have fun. They all come initially from villages that they visit again with their families during school holidays… but in the meantime they stay in the compound, in the small house with a very limited outdoor space like everybody else behind pointy fences and barbed wires.

When I asked two teenage girls what they did at home, they answered proudly thinking it was the right answer: “We are watching TV”. – “How sad”, did I reply – “Do you filter the information?”
Tribal people watching TV or other media take everything for real. What is shown on TV is too often bad news, violence, corruption and other money oriented topics: the marketing that makes us think about what we ‘need’ to keep up with the Jones. Seldom it gives good news, education or inspiring ideas unfortunately. What are we all showing to our children? Where is this world going?

PNG you prepare my world for tomorrow

You prepare my World… What is your Legacy?

They came from paradisaical villages that Westerners today visit while on an expensive cruise liner; they move into a concrete compound in a house shared by too many people, small windows and hardly any soil to plant a papaya tree. They are ‘de-rooted’ and plonked in a city with many other PNG ethnicities which raises the tension levels… Just for the sake of a job, for money. There is hardly any money in their villages!

What do I like about PNG, will you ask me?
Most of the people smile and greet you kindly. Many of them love when you stop and pay attention to their lives and their families.
Do you fear attracting violence? Then so you will. It is the Law of Attraction: you attract what you fear.
Do you feel comfortable and positive to walk and live there? Then you will be happy and see the good things that this country has to offer. That’s what I did.

Feng Shui tips for those living in a small over-crowded concrete house with little or no garden:

      1) cut some beautiful photos of landscapes and blue tag them on your walls. Looking at large open space will enlarge your view on life

      2) find a place inside or outside your home where you can sit a few moments per day on your own, prepare a little altar or mini garden so you welcome some inner peace

      PNG security guard

      Roseline and precious PNG friends

Wherever people live, they can arrange their surroundings to make them feel happy. They don’t need much material possessions: only a few pictures can do the trick!

For thousands of years, many cultures used labyrinth to relax. Most of us know a few  famous ones for ex. the one on the floor in Chartres cathedral in France.

Since, many more popped up around the world either paved ones or edges, or blocs or even lavender ones! I recall 15 years ago our trip to Tasmania was visiting labyrinths as many as we could and my young son at the time thoroughly enjoyed this holiday!

Public parks now start more and more building a labyrinth on their lawns. I walked the one in Sydney Centennial Park as illustrated in these photos. I walked it emptying my mind towards the center, then walked it the other way repeating a mantra. How powerful this is!Not all of us have the chance to live near such a labyrinth, alternatively, display the photo of a labyrinth in your home and ‘walk’ it with your finger.

Labyrinth Sydney Centennial Park 2Those who have a large vacant piece of land, look into creating one with local flowers or little bushes.

A labyrinth works on the Feng Shui of your mind, you relax, you let go of your worries, you allow yourself to simply BE.

Apparent beams are not considered as good Feng Shui. Indeed the flow is jaggered each time it encounters one of them.

Sleeping under beams could make you feel ‘sliced’ and it could well turn into a health issue.

Apparent beamsThose 2 pictures illustrate ideas how to counteract the negative effects of beams above your sleeping area.

avoid apparent beamsMay these suggestions lead you to quality sleep and better health!

Roseline and aboriginal art xsEarly September, I had the fantastic opportunity to be invited and speak for Yes Group Belgium at the Aboriginal Signature Gallery in Brussels. Surrounded by those amazing art works of Central Australia, it was the perfect opportunity to share the approach of what I observed and learned of my life with Aboriginal Australians in the past few years.

The audience was multi-lingual and luckily I could present my talk in English. I started the lecture with a couple of simple questions, knowing that the group is interested in well-being, personal growth and self-reflection. Here is a very brief summary…

      – What is the most important for you in your life right now?
The answers varied from money to work, one person even mentioned happiness.
Since everyone has a different view on life and life style, who am I to say there would be a wrong answer?
->  I suggested JOY. An emotion.
I believe that we incarnated in our little body to experience emotions. Each emotion will manifest or express itself in our physical bodies and could turn into ‘butterflies’ in our stomach when we are happy and excited or turn into aches and pain when stressed.
With JOY you may skip some of the aches and pains?… Worth trying!
We are emotions, we become emotions.

      – What is your best asset?
Answers were work, career, family and more.
_> I suggested HEALTH… and in synergy with JOY your health will probably be thriving!
      We all smiled 🙂

      – Who are you?
Many in the audience referred to their names, to their job, to being human…
I shared what I humbly understand today – without asking anyone to believe this but rather to think about it…

“I am an infinite being living infinite lives in infinite dimensions, NOW!” Roseline Deleu

Aboriginal Signature GalleryThe big difference between Aboriginal Australians and the modern world is that they are space based while modern world is time based. Stressed people can’t live in the now, they constantly look at their watch, they have goals or budgets to achieve, deadlines to match.
Indigenous Australians, connect with their environment, with the space. Country is family. Trees, plants, animals, nature too. They connect, they respect. They do their best to cope with the modern world that started being imposed on them about 200 years ago, some communities were still nomads in the 1980’s!

Roseline Deleu aboriginal gallery Brussels xsWhat the modern world doesn’t understand is that indigenous people perceive and live in different realms, other dimensions and that’s one of the reasons why money is not their priority. They are right, we can’t breathe money, we can’t eat coins!
The essential is TO BE not to have. It is to care for country, to hold the land.

Material possessions are only important for the joy they give us. If we can’t carry them freely in a small bag, they are probably a burden. (I am very aware of this and I traveled to Europe for 6 weeks only with 6 kilos in my bag!)

For those who wish to start connecting with this ancient culture and get some insights of who they truly are, I encourage you to display an original and unique piece of Aboriginal Australian Art work in their surroundings. Feel their power. Magic happens.

      Food for thought.

      Feng Shui – Deceased Estate

I was walking in Yulara (Central Australia) when strangely, a pigeon swept with a loud flapping noise above my head determined to attract my attention. I knew something had happened. It was a clear sign. Deep in my heart, I knew my mother had left. That night, an email followed to confirm. I booked my flights and left for the other side of the world.

When my cousins picked me up at Brussels airport, they had no problem to recognise me as I was the only person coming out of that flight with a small carry-on bag only and wearing winter clothes – it is currently Winter in Australia but mid-Summer in Belgium. The last thing that I was going to worry about was what to wear!

All went as smoothly as possible in those circumstances. Family and friends gathered for the funerals. Then… it was time to deal with mother’s belongings. That is a Titan task. I am sure that those of you who went through this stage still have items they can’t depart. Those who haven’t, probably hope to push this challenging moment as far as possible away in time.

It is a time of total detachment, on all levels.
It is a time of remembering, healing emotions and letting go.

I packed clothes, shoes bedding and gave it all to mancare. Some books went to second hand shop, expensive leather cover encyclopaedias went to recycling as nobody wants those anymore. I “E-bayed” all I could of her beautiful and quality furniture and decor then finished with a garage sale.

I went through all her manicured photo albums and wondered how many hours it took her to prepare such pedagogical tools, after all she was a lifelong teacher. It made me think of how we handled the photos decades ago, then we printed them all, no choice, so we kept most of them even sometimes those that were blurry simply because we paid for the printouts! Nowadays with the digital photos, we have much too many of them. Yes, they take no physical space, only virtual one. How many of you can say that you sort them out only keep those worthwhile?

In my daily life, I de-clutter regularly and I named my Feng Shui photo-trick : “A year in less than 4 minutes”.

Since 2009 each year, I create a yearly small slide show that fits onto the timing of one song – between 3 and 4 minutes. I gather all the good moments I lived during that year. People are happy to watch photos for a few minutes (only) and it is handy to place it on YouTube to share with overseas relatives. That’s all. No need for me to bother anyone with the thousand of photos of my latest trips, no, let’s keep it simple and short – that’s all what people want. I then erase all excess photos and the ‘delete’ button is popular! Your photos are your story, only a few good ones are important to keep for you and your descendants.

feng shui memoriesYou may wonder what I will bring back with me to Australia?
Very little: my baby plate in which I started eating and my first silver cutlery set.

      The rest is now gone.
I am free… so is she.
Many blessings, Mum, thank you for everything you did and taught me!

      My Equi-Life Coaching Experience

DSC_5563I often experience different techniques especially when I come across interesting and genuine people – Frank Dejoncheere, director of Equi-Life Coaching is one of them!

When Frank enthusiastically shared with me the great results he gets with coaching people through interactions with horses (Equi-coaching), I was interested and booked a session.

Ostriches in GrimbergenArriving at its outdoors location in Grimbergen (Belgium), he walked with me and I discovered: 3 horses each in their paddock, a few ostriches and several white emus safely guarded. I couldn’t help myself to pick up their beautiful feathers on the ground. I thought I could offer them when I go next to Papua New Guinea for their ceremonial outfits.

The horse in the first paddock called me. Frank smiled, he reckons it is the horse with the biggest ego and the hardest to deal with. We walked into his paddock. I discussed with Frank about a little health challenge I am ready to solve that appeared due to unspoken words. On a physical level, this trauma located itself under my chin and sometimes looks like a double chin that interestingly appears on and off depending on my moods, how much water I drink – I am currently monitoring how and when it changes. I decided to energetically place this issue onto the horse to see how I could change this trauma into joy. Here is what happened…

The horse shows you something with his behaviour… he was eating. I cracked out laughing, I had put on a few extra kilos lately and me too, like the horse, seem to be (too) often eating.

When the horse leaves, so does the trauma. Interestingly, the 2 other horses in the other paddocks were in sync and all 3 left at the same time. Interesting. This was the sign for me TO BE and LET GO rather than express what I WANT! I still had to now welcome the transformation that turned into JOY

We were still standing in the paddock with no horse in sight, we then started talking about the colours of my scarf and the gold colours that I was wearing in hat and scarf. I explained what gold meant for me and soon got the strong realisation that my body seeked Gold oligo elements under my tongue. I was in the moment, I was connecting with me, I was living the TO BE.

Wild horses in the Centre of Australia

When Frank asked me what I saw right there standing in the paddock, I saw fences, limitations… because horses where I usually am in the Centre of Australia are wild horses running free in the large desert areas. I got excited talking about freedom, talked and connected with the elements of Nature and felt my aura changing. Frank stopped me kindly as I was talking about rocks (the Metal element)… my whole body became huge and he wanted to warn me, he had never seen nor experiences such a sight before. When I talked about plants (the Wood element)… my whole body expanded around me and Frank had to take a step back. Tuning into Earth, my body shrank and I felt and looked as little as a dwarf. What I felt was that my body was suddenly wearing clothes that had shrunk in the dryer. I could feel it in my cells too it is an fantastic experience!

We turned to the other side of the paddock and realised that all 3 horses were all out of sight. My trauma was leaving or had left! Now… time to welcome Joy when the horse would come back to me.

      Roseline Deleu connecting with horse

Horse named “Terrific” connecting with Roseline Deleu in Grimbergen

A plane was flying above our heads and we noticed a large bird circling a few hundred metres from us. We watched it and as we talked we started walking to the right, the bird changed direction and flew to the right too. We were talking about freedom and being in the flow. We were in the NOW.

We turned again and saw the horse walking towards us. Trauma had transformed, Joy was coming!

Purple cloverAs we walked towards the animal, we stopped at the same moment and looked down in the grass, only to notice half a dozen of little purple coloured clovers lost among the grass. I kneed down and picked up a 2 leave clover. I smiled and said after all the usual good luck for the green ones are 4 leaves, these purple ones must be 2 leaves only, they are different – so are our beliefs in life.

Many signs and lessons appeared for me during this Equi-life Coaching session. One song came into my head as I looked at the clovers: “From little things big things grow” (Paul Kelly, Singer) which is a well known song in Australia relating to Vincent Lingari and aboriginal history of Gurindji people when they went on an 8 year strike to recup their land from the colonialists. All is about the Land, respecting the Land. Here I was, back in Belgium, on the land where I was born, making the connexion with my 18 years of Australian wisdom. Please follow the links at the end of this post.

The horse looked smaller at the end of my session, my emotional baggage had left!

When I connected with the nature elements, my double chin had left.
I was in the Tao, in the NOW, in the flow of life, I was free, I was ONE.

An Equi-life coaching session is not about the horse it is about you. So for those of you who are a little afraid of horses, I haven’t even touched the horse! We simply connected. We were ONE.

I encourage you to book your session with Frank www.coachmij.be sessions are in English, Flemish or French.
