buddha head wrong placement closeupI recently saw a wrong placement of a Buddha head in a front yard and took a photo to explain this to you.

As you see, the Buddha is not in full body, people choose to place only a head.

Before I explain anything, I’d like to ask yourself “How do I feel seeing a head on its own like that in a bare garden?”

buddha head wrong placement

Moreover, the head is turning its back towards the street, while we would rather prefer that a Buddha welcomes us at home. Turning a back to the street or to an entry means that you can’t see who is coming – you can’t see the dangers either.

From a respect point of view, I would always encourage you to display a Buddha in full body with a full wall behind his back and preferably on a certain height on top of an altar (not on the floor).

For those of you who have a Buddha’s head, place it on the height where a head would normally be.

As Europe and the rest of the world is facing huge waves of refugees, Papua New Guineans could well feel like aliens in their own country.
Papua New Guinea (PNG) counts 600 islands, 7 million people and over 800 languages. Only 18 % live in urban centres while most of the population lives in customary communities.

PNG digicel sign

Mobile Phone advertising – Welcome sign as you land in Port Moresby (PNG)

Pursuing my researches on Feng Shui and environmental health, I visited many different areas of PNG in 2015. It is an amazing country with a variety of landscapes. From volcanoes to swamps, mountains to islands – each has its own beauty. Tourism is very slow due to the high level of danger and Port Moresby is rated as one of the 10 most dangerous capital cities in the world.

In PNG, there is no dole (no sit-down money), little welfare and scarce employment. In cities, the minimum wage is the equivalent of +/- 1 Australian Dollar per hour, that is for the lucky ones who have a job. People live from the land in their villages and also in Port Moresby where you can see vegetables growing wherever people can grow them: on the side of the streets, in some hills or in their little gardens. Then, they sit on a little outdoor space and sell their harvest to the pedestrians.

PNG selling their harvest

Every little sale counts

PNG has encountered the modern world like other developing countries, jumping from the Metal Age (they all have machetes there) straight into the Age of Technology. What a shock! In some villages today, I have seen many tribal men proudly walking with their mobile phone in their hand!

PNG walking in the village

Village Life

PNG walking in the compound.jpg

Compound Life

Not everyone lives in a village, some of those who pursued their education and working career often may have been moved with their families to major cities. In Port Moresby, expats and some locals live in heavily guarded compounds. Other locals live in other banded areas in basic houses with no electricity and sometimes even without tap water and no bathrooms.

Compound Life

As I walked in the compound where I was staying, indigenous children and teenagers came out and happily talked to me. Our conversations were about their lives, languages, wishes and needs. The compound was mainly housing and industrial buildings, no park for them to play, no place to have fun. They all come initially from villages that they visit again with their families during school holidays… but in the meantime they stay in the compound, in the small house with a very limited outdoor space like everybody else behind pointy fences and barbed wires.

When I asked two teenage girls what they did at home, they answered proudly thinking it was the right answer: “We are watching TV”. – “How sad”, did I reply – “Do you filter the information?”
Tribal people watching TV or other media take everything for real. What is shown on TV is too often bad news, violence, corruption and other money oriented topics: the marketing that makes us think about what we ‘need’ to keep up with the Jones. Seldom it gives good news, education or inspiring ideas unfortunately. What are we all showing to our children? Where is this world going?

PNG you prepare my world for tomorrow

You prepare my World… What is your Legacy?

They came from paradisaical villages that Westerners today visit while on an expensive cruise liner; they move into a concrete compound in a house shared by too many people, small windows and hardly any soil to plant a papaya tree. They are ‘de-rooted’ and plonked in a city with many other PNG ethnicities which raises the tension levels… Just for the sake of a job, for money. There is hardly any money in their villages!

What do I like about PNG, will you ask me?
Most of the people smile and greet you kindly. Many of them love when you stop and pay attention to their lives and their families.
Do you fear attracting violence? Then so you will. It is the Law of Attraction: you attract what you fear.
Do you feel comfortable and positive to walk and live there? Then you will be happy and see the good things that this country has to offer. That’s what I did.

Feng Shui tips for those living in a small over-crowded concrete house with little or no garden:

1) cut some beautiful photos of landscapes and blue tag them on your walls. Looking at large open space will enlarge your view on life

2) find a place inside or outside your home where you can sit a few moments per day on your own, prepare a little altar or mini garden so you welcome some inner peace

Wherever people live, they can arrange their surroundings to make them feel happy. They don’t need much material possessions: only a few pictures can do the trick!

The Red Mat strikes again!

When I wrote my RED MAT post a few days ago, I knew that other rewards were about to appear…

Only to say that this morning, when I attended my appointment with a new health practitioner, the red mat stroke again!

Here I was lying on her table, we exchanged a few words till we realised that I was a long time ago her son’s first preschool teacher! Indeed, before living my Feng Shui life full time, a preschooler teacher I was, when I initially migrated to Australia. I couldn’t believe how much she was happy to see me, said the kids were sad when I left school, how parents missed me and how fond memories her son had of his first year with me.
I was gobsmacked.
For a 3 year old then… to still remember me and my name today!

When I booked my next appointment for Thursday, she looked at me closely again – now I have long hair, at that time my hair was very short – and said: “Yes, it is really you Roseline, but today you look 10 years younger than then.”

Back home, I looked in my old photos and compared my looks. Today I have a few grey hair, more wrinkles, a few more kilos but indeed, my whole persona looks younger because my attitude towards life has changed.
We never know how little or how much we bring happiness into people’s lives.

How about your red mat?

Please share your stories, they always encourage others to make their Feng Shui steps.

red mat in bathroomIn my last predictions, I suggested to my readers to add a red door mat, or red mat somewhere around their home to reap rewards…

Since I walk my talk, I went and bought a lovely new coral red mat for my bathroom.

Results were very fast: within two days, a friend from interstate offered me to visit, came, cooked for me, did my lawns and cleared an overgrown patch of my garden. That was awesome!

Thank you Universe 🙂 🙂

Adding Humour & Kindness into an Industrial Area

Enjoying my Feng Shui life and passion, of course, I always have my camera ready to take shots of good ideas to illustrate Feng Shui examples for you.

industrial look

photo 1

Feng Shui is not limited to homes and offices/restaurants, I am often requested to visit farms, hospitals and… industrial areas to assess and consult on the layouts of warehouses, sheds etc.

These 2 photos show the introduction of warm coloured wall in an industrial area. As soon as painted, it immediately softened the street.

The photo 1 shows you how ‘unfriendly’ it can look with the barb wire and pointy fences keeping you away from the back door. It is deterring, it is a good protection. Definitely wouldn’t recommend this for a front door though!  🙂

With the photo 2 we see that someone added a smiley, and arm on the gas bottles. When driving in that lane, this immediately puts a smile on your face! A welcoming smile like this, even in an industrial area, adds kindness and humour and… can well change the day of those working there!

Building, Renovating or Moving Home?

apply feng shui principles to your renovations, Canberra, design your home on feng shui principles, feng shui, feng shui training courses, fengshui consultation, fengshui design

AlfrescoA good home layout and design will take into consideration the needs of its occupants. For a family of 5 a house will be very different than for a couple of retirees.

A family with small children will enjoy a safe garden with enough space to play, a large entertaining area for kids parties, alfresco or BBQ; an older couple will probably be happy with a smaller garden easy to maintain with many colourful flowers that bring joy into their lives and a paved area to sit comfortably with their visitors.

outdoor area easy to maintainWhen designing a house for my clients, firstly we visit the block of land and during pre-design conversation I include many questions for example:

– How long are you planning to live here?
– How many people will live in the house and how old are they?
– What are your hobbies, sports and interest?
– How many cars do you use in the family?
After many more questions and listening to their life stories, I start the design process including their needs and wishes combining this with the most beneficial and tasteful Feng Shui.

Nowadays, people tend to move house more often than the previous generations. This is good so people (hopefully) review their possessions and decide before the move what they really want to take into their new homes. Having said that, I sometimes find removal-ists boxes stocked in top shelves in garages that have been moved and moved again for years and that are only collecting dust… bringing stagnation into their life. Hence why I am also the ‘biggest enemy’ of storage places that are good for people moving countries and coming back rather than storing excess of unnecessary possessions.

Did you know that what is stored in boxes for more than 1 year, most of the times you won’t need anymore because your patterns of using what you have in there has changed and you can easily live without it.

Is your home today reflecting the life style that you wish? Does it give you burden or pleasure?

In other words… do you feel happy to be home and if not what can you change?

Two good questions for you right now…
1. Do you think that your house too big?
2. How much do you think you spend per year to keep/store the excess of your material possessions?

We can live in comfort with the essentials; sadly TV, advertising and Egos tend to tell us differently… – Food for thoughts. 🙂 –

I am available for Feng Shui consultations, make-overs, renovations and new designs.
During consultations, I use items and decor that you already own, having taught Feng Shui to interior Designers and Decorators I never use Chinese items. Together with my clients we choose taste & harmony. Clients say that their consultation with me was the best investment they ever made – read more feed back on my website www.fengshuisteps.com.au

Feeling good at home will certainly change your outlook on life.

Feng Shui and Emotional Health

Bedroom
Many people don’t realise how much their homes and surroundings constantly and subliminaly influence and affect their emotional health. Yes, in this post I am relating to emotional health as this type of health is too often overlooked!

Waking up in peaceful surroundings, in a room tastefully and inspiringly decorated will give you a good start for the day. Contrary, waking up in a neglected and cluttered place will immediately trigger a sensation of burden and a strong message that ‘life is too hard’. These first impressions bring back emotions which start and create your day.

Photo de familleI am often questioned what to do with photos of deceased? Having many all around the home would increase sadness; instead, displaying photos, memorabilia or souvenirs of departed family, friends or pets in sector ‘3’ of the grid that’s where you best honoured them and this will help you with the grieving process. Please keep them out of your bedroom even if this is your sector ‘3’, thank you.

Today, look at your place with ‘new eyes’. What makes you feel happy, what brings you sadness or burden. Do you want to keep those items? What can you change?

Feeling good at home will certainly change your outlook on life.

I travel the world with my consultations and Feng Shui trainings – I am only a flight away!
Looking forward to reading from you.

Red bedroom 2.jpgDear Followers,

Magic square in colourChinese New year of the Fire Monkey just started and Valentine’s day is approaching fast! Two good reasons to adjust the Feng Shui in your home especially in your “Love & Relationship” area “2” at home.   – Refer to the grid and caption expanation to see how you can find your Love area in your home.

De-clutter and clean up that area first. Add some fire and passion by adding: fushia, red, orange shades as well as other Fire and Earth elements around. Display items in pairs, candles, two cushions, fresh flowers, nice photo of a couple (can be a photo of a couple of birds for those who are single and wish to meet someone). Avoid uneven number of items for the moment, focus on pairs.
