Chris Kershaw (

1.                   Please CHRIS, tell our readers briefly WHEN, HOW, WHERE and in WHICH circumstances we met
Chris Kershaw Remedial massage Palm Beach GC AustraliaI met Roseline through a mutual friend. This mutual friend spoke constantly and highly of Roseline often quoting her. What she said seemed to resonate with me and I felt a strong urge to meet her. Then, one day, out of the blue I met Roseline at a Health and Harmony Festival in 2005 and we clicked immediately and have been good friends ever since.

2.                   Since then, could you share what is the most interesting Feng Shui result that you have experienced?
I am the sort of person that can at times hold on to stuff, whether it’s physical, mental or emotional. Whenever I have a cleanup and again it can be getting rid of physical stuff or a mental and emotional clean out, then as – Roseline predicts – new and fresh things enter my life, whether its material things or new ideas, insights and distinctions about life.

3.                   Let’s talk more about you now Chris… Tell us a little about yourself and your business
I moved to the Gold Coast in 1994 from Sydney in search of a healthier and cleaner lifestyle. That same year I did my first serious massage course and for the next few years I practised and honed my massage skills on a somewhat part time basis. Christopher Kershaw Massage therapistAbout 9 years ago I took the plunge and went full time in massage and shortly after this time I returned to college for 1 year full time to upgrade my skills to the current Diploma of Remedial Massage, where I obtained Dux of the School. I then worked in a high volume massage centre for 2 years doing mostly remedial work; it was this high volume and varied work load that has really sharpened my skills in treating many different ailments and conditions. I currently work from my own clinic at home in Palm Beach, Gold Coast in Queensland.

In a way I sort of fell into my line of work and business to help myself with my own problem, but I didn’t know that at the time. I had a chronic back problem that started in my early 20’s and from what all the different doctors told me my future looked bleak. Massage, awareness, nutrition, posture, exercise, lifestyle and breathing have changed all that. I feel great, fit and healthy now.

4.                   What are the five words that people would use to describe www.BodyMindMechanics.com.au
DECIDE –SOLUTION – IMPLEMENT – INTEGRATE – EDUCATE

5.                   What was the purpose on starting your Body Mind Mechanics business and how has the concept come about?
I was never really totally happy working for someone else and I always knew that one day I would work for myself. So therefore the purpose was to create a perfect lifestyle and to do this I had to remove the obligation that comes with working for a boss in a company. I feel I have achieved this. There are of course two sides to everything, when I don’t perform than I lose the lifestyle. A guru friend once said to me years ago that self employment is the perfect self reflection and personal development tool you can have.

Chris Kershaw ReflexologyAs far as the concept of Body & Mind Mechanics is concerned I started out as a Remedial Massage Therapist and I learnt after a while that people responded differently to my treatment which is no surprise as everyone is different. I then started to notice that a person’s outlook, attitude or beliefs about life had a bearing on how well they responded. I came to the conclusion that the body and the mind are not separate as most people may think. I would like to quote again from Dr Deepak Chopra, who once said: “Your body is a print out of your past thoughts and actions” his quote eloquently ties the body and mind together.

6.                   What are the most common issues that people who come to see you for advice?
This is a tricky question as I seem to attract people of all ages, all lifestyles and equally both genders, from young elite athletes to people in their twilight years. In general the younger athletes usually come to me with soft tissue injuries or want to decrease their recovery time post competition and training. The middle agers are usually general soreness and fatigue from stress or work related type issues. The elderly will often have chronic pain type problems and post operation recovery problems. And I love working on all of these types of conditions.

7.                   Tell us more about your services that you provide to your clients?
Chris Kershaw Deep tissue massage gold coast90 % of my work would be remedial massage. I use remedial massage to achieve the desired results. I often get asked; what is remedial massage? Remedial means to achieve a specific outcome. So when someone comes to me with a sore back then I use remedial massage techniques to relieve and hopefully correct the imbalance that is causing the pain. I need to insist here, and this goes for all types of methods and medicine, that I am not fixing the problem I am simply assisting the person’s body to heal itself.

The main remedial techniques that I use are: deep tissue massage which in itself encompasses many types of strokes and techniques including sports techniques, trigger point therapy, connective tissue massage, myo fascial release, soft tissue mobilisation and joint mobilisation and of course Swedish massage. I also provide private health fund rebates for remedial massage.

8.                   Tell us about your process for working with clients?
When a client comes to see me for the first time I take a detailed medical and lifestyle history that remains private.  We discuss what the client wants to achieve, we look into a treatment plan and a time frame to gain the desired outcomes. Once I start having my hands on the client I then can make a proper assessment of the problem and achieve the results accordingly.

9.                   What advice can you offer to people who are just discovering Body Mind Mechanics?
Chris Kershaw Massage Palm Beach Gold CoastIf you are out there in some sort of pain or discomfort then most likely there is something that can be done. The body does not want to be in pain it wants to heal and bring itself back into balance. All it needs is an opportunity to do just that. I have people come to me with problems they have had for decades thinking nothing can be done because someone in authority told them so, and so it became a self fulfilling prophesy (body and mind link). One day, they are ready to improve and change. They can make improvements and quite dramatic improvements in some cases. So the message is get another opinion and don’t get stuck with the notion that this is all there is.

10.               Do you have a tip or massage/exercise movement that you would like to recommend?
QLD 4221Everyone should do some sort of exercise every day, up to their own present capability. And as your fitness grows you increase the intensity level of exercise. As a rule, 1 minute for every year of age. So if you are 45 years old than you should be doing 45 minutes of exercise a day. And if you don’t have time, then anything is better than nothing.

11.               Where do we find your services?
